La Printaniere Montessori School is seeking an Upper Elementary lead teacher for the 2022-2023 school year. This is a full-time position working with children grades 1-5 in a blended lower & upper elementary classroom. The Upper Elementary teacher will work together with the Lower Elementary teacher. We desire an individual who embraces the Montessori philosophy and exhibits self-motivation, a deep respect for children, and a growth mindset.

La Printaniere Montessori is located in Baton Rouge, LA and has a community of around 80 students ages 3 – 11 years. Currently in its 40th year, we provide an authentic Montessori education in a private, independent, child-centered environment. Our school is accredited by the Louisiana Montessori Association and approved by the Louisiana Department of Education.

 

Required Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree

  • Elementary teaching experience

  • Valid Louisiana Elementary Teaching Certificate AND/OR Upper Elementary Montessori credential from a LDOE-approved training program (AMS, AMI, CGMS, MWEI, St. Nicholas)

  • Demonstrated general knowledge of curriculum and instruction

  • Demonstrated strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills required to achieve the goals of the position

  • Experience in a multi-age Montessori environment preferred

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

 

  • IF APPLICABLE: Willingness to attend and complete Montessori training, funded by La Printaniere, within the first two years during personal time

  • Demonstrate knowledge and practice of the core Montessori philosophy of respect for the individual learner, preparation of the environment, fostering independence, order and

concentration in the student, respect for sensitive periods, recognizing intrinsic motivation and the absorbent mind

  • Prepare and present lessons that accommodate for differences in student learning styles in a multiage setting and according to guidelines established by our 3-year Montessori curriculum

  • Conduct ongoing assessment of student progress through observation and record keeping

  • Establish and maintain classroom discipline with patience, compassion, and understanding

  • Foster a classroom community conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of the students

  • Establish and maintain open and effective communication with parents, students, administration, and other teachers

  • Participate in before-care, after-care, lunch, recess, and/or carpool coverage, and/or parent education nights, as availability allows

  • Attend required staff meetings and regularly scheduled parent conferences and social functions

 

Physical Requirements and Work Environment The Elementary teacher can expect to:

 

  • Work in a cozy environment alongside two teachers and approximately 30 students

  • Work primarily in a traditional climate-controlled classroom environment, with periods of time outdoors

  • Supervise groups of students and regularly engage with parents, staff, and visitors

  • Occasionally lift up to 30 pounds

  • Frequently transition from sitting on the floor and/or low chairs to standing

Southwood Learning Center is seeking a Certified Montessori Coordinator/teacher. Primary responsibility would be as the lead for the Children’s House Primary classroom (ages 3-6).  The coordinator's responsibilities would include working with our toddler rooms to prepare and develop an authentic Montessori environment. The position is full-time or part-time (12-month and school year options available) with a start date in early August. We are seeking experienced and organized candidates who are committed to the Montessori philosophy and respect the needs of each child as a unique individual. The ideal candidate would have at least 5 years of experience working in a Montessori Primary environment. 

 

Responsibilities include: 

 

  • Preparing the Children’s House environment by implementing Montessori lessons in all areas of the curriculum, facilitating parent engagement/education and conferences, and record and data management. 

  • Maintain a beautiful and inviting classroom environment that fosters peace and community where children are safe to make and learn from their mistakes.

  • Working with our toddler classrooms to create and implement a Montessori environment 

  • Classroom management skills that are firm yet kind with respectful language and positive guidance

  • Open and respectful communication with classroom assistants 

  • Partners with families, teachers, and administrators to build and maintain the integrity of our program


Education and qualifications: 

  • AMS, AMI, or Diploma in Early Childhood (2 ½ to 6 years) or Primary (3 to 6 years) Education from a MACTE recognized or affiliate Teacher Education Program.

  • Required experience working in a child-centered early childhood program is required.

  • Experience in a Montessori classroom environment.
